Todays leaves are orange and brown, and the wind flattens them, and the rain hammers on the windows. Lockdown restlessness makes me paint, as it takes away the need to be some where else. I expel the energy…..
I am testing myself and the watercolours, pushing the paint to see what it will do, trying to stay free with the marks, let that inner image flow into salt water. When I have found the six sketches, then I will decide which will become a larger image, developed on canvas where I can play with oil paint. The Covid has shut down my world, Wales in lockdown, we can only go out to get food, say hello to the strangers we pass, widely, on the pavements.
Exploring the same subject by doing a number of closely linked sketches deepens the connection, it tells the story, it will be nice to see them all together once they have all found their way into the visual. The are an interpretation of why I like by the sea, because it reminds me that we are not the masters of Nature, of the elements. The sea when it is wild does as it wants, it fills the space, sculps the land…………it might lull you into a calm as you swim through the blue turquoise on a summers afternoon, silver fish darting beneath you……but there is always a wilder side……..
The storms are coming…………
What you say is so true, Jane. The power of nature is awe inspiring ……….. the eruption of volcanoes, the power of the sea, floods, winds and invisible viruses!
